The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nardo joined Gissah's Signature Collection in 2025, and the name itself points somewhere specific. Nardo is the Italian and Spanish word for tuberose, the white-blossom flower prized across the Mediterranean for its heady, almost animalic sweetness. That reference sits quietly underneath a composition that leans fresh and woody rather than floral, a deliberate tension between the name's promise and what the bottle delivers. On skin, the tuberose never blooms in any conventional sense. Instead, its creamy, waxy undertones slip in as a soft hum behind the brighter notes, more of a texture than a statement.
What makes Nardo worth noticing is how the base materials hold up the top. Patchouli and amberwood sit underneath the ginger and mandarin, adding real weight beneath the brightness. The pink pepper in the heart doubles down on warmth without tipping into sweetness, keeping the composition in a crisp, spicy register rather than drifting gourmand. The ginger carries a sharp, almost peppery snap in the first fifteen minutes, while the mandarin offers a softer citrus curve that keeps the opening from feeling aggressive.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are almost disorienting. Mandarin lands first, sweet and sun-warmed, then ginger cuts across it with that clean burn, the kind that feels like biting into raw spice. It is bright, almost sharp, the way a cold morning smells when you step outside and the air hits the back of your nose. By the forty-minute mark, the citrus starts to soften. Lemon sneaks in at the edges, lifting the ginger rather than competing with it, and pink pepper arrives in small clicks of heat. The composition feels lifted here, almost effervescent, the way sparkling water catches light. The shift happens around the two-hour mark. Patchouli rises from underneath, not heavy-handed or earthy in the old-school sense, but clean and slightly dry, the way cedar smells after rain. Amberwood follows, warming the whole composition without adding weight. By hour four, the citrus is a memory and what remains is a soft woody warmth, close to the skin, the kind of scent that survives a long workday and greets you when you take your jacket off at home.
Cultural impact
Nardo fits into Gissah's growing Signature Collection as a fresher, lighter expression within the brand's broader range of compositions. It offers a confident take on the fresh-spicy territory, the kind of fragrance that rewards a closer look from anyone drawn to citrus openings but wary of how quickly they can fade into something forgettable. Here, the ginger and pink pepper carry enough presence to register on skin well past the first hour, and the patchouli and amberwood base ensures the wear stays substantial.
