The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Siberian Rose arrived in 2020 as part of Fragrance Du Bois's Natures Treasures collection, composed by Shadi Samra. The name alone is a provocation: Siberia, a place associated with extreme cold and stark landscapes, and a rose, the most delicate of flowers. The concept isn't about contrast for its own sake. It's about testing what survives when soft meets hostile. Samra built the fragrance to answer that question, a white floral that doesn't apologize for existing in difficult conditions.
What makes this composition unusual is the leather. Here, leather does the structural work, giving the white rose and tuberose something to lean against that isn't sweet. The juniper in the opening isn't a gimmick, it's there to establish the cold, mineral atmosphere that makes the florals feel like they emerged from something hostile. There's a rawness to the way the leather holds the florals, as if the materials are still learning each other's edges. The result is a fragrance that smells like it earned its name.
The evolution
The opening hits cold, juniper and pink pepper create an immediate chill. The pear arrives quietly, adding a sweetness that keeps the atmosphere from turning harsh. As the fragrance develops, the leather begins to assert itself, wrapping around the florals as they unfold. The transition from bright top to warm heart happens gradually, the florals never fully surrendering to the base. Eventually the patchouli and amber anchor everything into a mossy drydown that lingers on skin for hours. On fabric, it can still be detected the next morning, a faint trace of amber and leather that rewards the close inspection.
Cultural impact
Siberian Rose occupies a distinct space within the rose fragrance category. It's not another sweet oriental, but a white floral with leather and moss that reads as colder and more complex than its name suggests. The scent offers a different approach to rose, using structural leather and earthy base notes to create something that feels more considered than decorative. Quality ingredients show through the composition, giving it an presence that rewards attention.
