The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nuits Blanches translates to white nights, the luminous hours when darkness never quite arrives. This 2010 release, composed by perfumer Ilias Ermenidis, channels that in-between quality: neither day nor night, neither sharp nor sweet. Ermenidis built the scent around linden tree blossom, a note that carries a specific green-floral character, honeyed but not heavy, with a leafiness that reads almost like crushed stems. The fragrance opens with that memory as its foundation, but it doesn't stop there. As the top notes settle, the linden reveals a creamy undertone, almost like crushed petals releasing their nectar. There's a subtle dewy quality that keeps the green notes from becoming sharp or astringent.
What makes Nuits Blanches unusual is its middle path. The top arrives green-herbal, almost medicinal from the tarragon and pepper. The base settles into warm ambergris and sandalwood. The heart, where most fragrances make their case, has to bridge that gap, and it does so through magnolia and marigold. Neither flower is conventionally sweet. Magnolia is waxy and slightly citrusy. Marigold is earthy, almost hay-like. Together they create a buffer zone that lets the composition shift without lurching. It's a structural solution that rewards wearing the scent for more than the opening hour.
The evolution
The first ten minutes announce linden's greenness immediately. Mandarin adds brief brightness before the pepper and tarragon ground the opening into something more herbal than citrus. Around the thirty-minute mark, magnolia arrives, soft, waxy, and unexpected after the sharpness. Lily of the valley follows, bringing a dewy quality that tempers the marigold's earthiness. The transition to base takes two to three hours on most skin types. Ambergris doesn't arrive dramatically; it creeps in as the florals begin to fade, adding a marine-sweetness that lifts the drydown. Sandalwood and vetiver anchor everything underneath, with frankincense providing a faint resinous thread that can linger on fabric into the next day.
Cultural impact
Collection Privee Nuits Blanches launched in 2010 as part of Faberlic's Collection Privee line, representing a move into elevated perfumery. The release marked a notable departure from the brand's other offerings, signaling an ambition to explore different fragrance territory. The blend of aromatic traditions creates a distinctive olfactory statement. Nuits Blanches carved a particular position in the fragrance landscape with its unusual note selection and balanced composition. The scent bridges different aromatic influences, combining floral sweetness with green undertones to create something that feels both familiar and unexpectedly fresh.
