The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Sweet Candy arrived in 2025 as part of Emper's Marwa Collection, a playful, gourmand-leaning catalogue. The brand's official framing calls it 'a playful swirl of juicy fruits and creamy marshmallow, melting into a warm, velvety base for a scent that's pure indulgence.' That word, indulgence, does the heavy lifting here. Sweet Candy doesn't hide what it wants to be. On first encounter, the opening sprays with a sharp, almost confectionary brightness: mandarin, raspberry, and sour cherry stacked into something that reads immediately as sweet, almost neon in its juiciness. The marshmallow and vanilla rise quickly underneath, giving the fruit a creamy scaffolding that keeps it from feeling artificial.
What separates Sweet Candy from a straight-up candy shop composition is the suede. It appears in the opening alongside the fruit and returns again at the base as white suede, which means the leather note isn't a fleeting accent. The marshmallow and vanilla give the obvious sweetness, but the suede pulls everything into a slightly powdered, almost lipgloss-like territory. Add raspberry and sour cherry for tartness, gardenia and orchid for a creamy white-floral haze, and sandalwood and oak for warmth. The result reads gourmand but feels more deliberate than a simple sugar rush.
The evolution
The first spray lands with immediate fruit: mandarin brightness undercut by raspberry's tartness, sour cherry cutting through like a syrup reduction. That suede note shows up early too, sitting underneath the fruit like the lining of a jacket. For a good stretch after application, the composition is loud, sweet, unmistakably gourmand. The marshmallow and vanilla arrive properly as the hours progress, softening everything into a creamy, slightly powdery cloud. The gardenia and orchid hum beneath, giving the heart a fuller, more rounded texture. The fruit recedes but doesn't vanish. Eventually the composition shifts fully into its base: sandalwood and white suede warm the skin, musk adds softness, and oak grounds the whole thing. The sour cherry lingers somewhere in the background, a faint tart whisper that adds dimension to the drydown.
Cultural impact
Sweet Candy sits comfortably in the gourmand-sweet category, but the suede presence in both the top and base notes gives it a slightly more grown-up read than a straightforward candy composition. It wears like an everyday indulgence, the kind of scent someone reaches for when they want comfort without giving up sophistication. Within Emper's own catalogue, it fits alongside the brand's other playful, collection-driven releases like Falling in Love and Vanilla Muse. The addition of suede, a material that carries connotations of luxury and tactile richness, elevates the composition beyond pure novelty.
