The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Vanilla Rooibos Tea Latte was conceived by Jessi Park as part of Elysian's 2025 Tea Party Collection. Drawing on the comforting ritual of a warm rooibos latte, the perfumer aimed to capture that moment of quiet indulgence, translating the sip into scent. The unisex composition reflects Park's personal love for tea as a daily anchor, transforming a simple beverage into something you can carry with you throughout the day. Elysian's Atlanta roots and small-batch philosophy mean each bottle receives careful attention, resulting in a scent that feels personal rather than mass-produced.
Jessi Park chose rooibos tea as the centerpiece because it offered something her other compositions lacked: an herbal, slightly bitter quality that could ground sweeter notes without dominating them. Rather than using tea as an accent, Park built the entire composition around it, allowing the milk, honey, and caramel to amplify its comforting character. The tolu balsam and cedarwood serve a dual purpose, providing longevity and structure while also referencing the way real lattes have depth beyond their sweetness. Each note was selected to reinforce the feeling of warmth and ritual, creating a scent that feels less like a perfume and more like a sensory habit.
The evolution
The evolution of Vanilla Rooibos Tea Latte is unconventional in the best way. With no distinct opening, the scent arrives already warm and present, as though the heart notes simply rose into the air all at once. Rooibos tea and milk introduce the composition, immediately establishing the comforting, beverage-like character. Caramel and honey follow, adding sweetness without tipping into confectionery territory. The tol u balsam and almond surface in the mid-stage, introducing a gentle nuttiness and a faint resinous depth that elevates the scent beyond a simple gourmand. Cedarwood arrives as the hours pass, shifting the composition toward a quieter, woodier register while vanilla persists in a softer, more Intimate form. The overall arc is smooth and cohesive, moving from creamy comfort to warm sweetness to dry woodiness without jarring transitions.
Cultural impact
Rooibos tea, native to South Africa, has long been cherished for its earthy sweetness and caffeine‑free comfort, often enjoyed in communal gatherings and as a soothing evening ritual. By pairing it with vanilla, a spice linked to ancient trade routes across the Indian Ocean, the blend evokes a sense of historic exchange. The almond note adds a nutty depth reminiscent of Mediterranean desserts, while honey brings a universal symbol of hospitality and natural sweetness. Tog ether, these elements create a beverage that honors diverse cultural traditions, inviting drinkers to reflect on the shared human love for warm, comforting flavors that cross borders and generations.
