The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Coco & Capri is named for what it sounds like. Coconut, and the island that has turned leisure into an art form. Jessi Park composed it for Elysian's Lineage Collection in 2024. The composition leans into the contrast at the heart of its inspiration: cool marine air meeting warm tropical skin, two climates that shouldn't work together on paper but do here. Park built the scent around that push and pull, letting the cold, salty edge of ozone and marine notes tangle with the cream of coconut and the slow heat of tropical woods. The result smells less like a postcard and more like the moment right after a swim, when salt is still drying on your shoulders and the sun hasn't quite reached the horizon.
What's interesting is the tension in the composition. The marine and ozonic notes pull toward cold, mineral air. The coconut and tropical woods pull toward warm, humid skin. The pineapple adds a sharpness that keeps the sweetness from going soft, slicing through what would otherwise read as suntan oil. Birch and sandalwood ground the whole thing, so the breeze has somewhere to land. As the fragrance wears, that contrast softens rather than resolves. The ozonic shimmer fades first, then the pineapple gives way, leaving the coconut and woods to do the quiet work of the late drydown.
The evolution
The opening is bright and clean. Ozone, marine notes, the green snap of pineapple, and pear doing its best impression of biting into something cold. There's a soapy quality early on, almost like the shower before the day starts, a fresh, just-stepped-out feeling that sets the stage. As the minutes pass, the jasmine and coconut arrive together, layering a creamy floral warmth over the cool opening. The tropical woods and birch settle underneath, adding a faint woodsmoke that nobody promised but everyone notices. The drydown settles into white musk and sandalwood with a ghost of coconut still hanging on. It stays close to skin. The sillage is moderate, the kind that means someone has to lean in. The next morning, on fabric, it's a soft, creamy sandalwood with a trace of salt, like the ghost of a beach towel left in a bag.
Cultural impact
Coco & Capri sits comfortably in the world of indie-leaning fragrances that prize personality over mass appeal. Wearers reach for it when they want something summer-coded that doesn't disappear into the crowd of blue-bottle aquatics crowding the shelf. The pineapple-coconut pairing gives it character without tipping into gourmand territory, and the woody base keeps it from reading as a beach spray.
