The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
You + I arrived in 2023 as part of Dyad's personal fragrance line, a collection built on the idea that great scent should live in everyday moments, not behind glass. Based in Los Angeles, the brand creates compositions where two elements meet without one dominating the other. With You + I, the contrast isn't loud. It's a meeting between sheer florals and grounded musk, a study in closeness that doesn't demand attention to be felt. The fragrance leans into its name, holding two ideas in balance: a clean, green brightness from the opening that softens into something warm and skin-close by the late stages. There's a sheerness to the florals that keeps them from ever reading as heavy or traditional, while the musk underneath gives the whole composition its weight and its quiet.
Musk appears in all three layers of the pyramid, which is a structural choice that makes You + I work. Galbanum provides the green snap on top, and ylang-ylang adds depth to the floral heart. The result is a clean musk rather than a soapy one, closer to warm skin than to laundry. Vanilla in the base rounds the drydown without making it gourmand, and the sweetness stays restrained throughout. The musk itself carries a softness that feels almost tactile, the way cotton or clean fabric holds a trace of whoever's been wearing it.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the greenest the fragrance gets. Galbanum is sharp, almost bitter, the way cut stems smell before anything softens. Then it lifts. Jasmine and lily settle in alongside ylang-ylang and rose, and the sharpness becomes something creamier, almost sheer. The transition takes about twenty minutes and it's the most interesting part of wearing this, the moment it goes from crisp to close. By the one-hour mark, the musk has settled into a second-skin warmth, and the vanilla and amber underneath create a faint sweetness that never announces itself. The drydown carries a softness that reads more like warmth than like sweetness, with the amber lending a subtle glow that sits just above the skin. There's a powdery quality to the rose that becomes more apparent in the later stages, though it never overtakes the musk.
Cultural impact
You + I is built for closeness. It's a skin-close, musk-driven fragrance that prioritizes intimacy over projection, the kind of scent noticeable only to those standing near. There's a quiet confidence in that approach, a sense of something made for the wearer and whoever's close enough to lean in. Rather than filling a room, it stays present in a smaller, more personal radius, the kind of fragrance that belongs to a moment between two people rather than to a crowd. The composition holds its florals light and its musk grounded, letting the contrast speak without raising its volume.
