Why it exists.
The beginning
Be Delicious Ice Pop Very Cherry arrived in 2025 from the perfumer Catherine Selig. DKNY's Be Delicious line has always trafficked in a particular New York femininity, one that walks past a bodega, grabs a frozen cherry popsicle, and keeps moving. Very Cherry takes that exact image and pushes it harder. The 'Ice Pop' suffix in the collection name isn't decorative. It's the brief. Selig's task was less about composing a fine fragrance in the classical sense and more about bottling a single, vivid pleasure: the bite of cold cherry on a tongue that wasn't expecting it. The result smells like a frozen fruit cup caught mid-melt, all crystalline cherry flesh and the faintest milky chill still clinging to the surface.
What's interesting is how Selig handles the composition. Adding lychee to the top is the smarter move. Lychei's translucent, almost floral sweetness lifts the cherry out of straight dessert territory and into something that breathes. The lychee note has a juicy, almost grape-like quality that threads through the cherry without competing with it, and that interplay gives the opening an unexpected lift. Bergamot then does what bergamot does, keeping the first minutes from collapsing into pure sugar shock.
The evolution
The opening arrives cold and almost neon, bergamot slicing through cherry ice cream like a spoon through actual sorbet. Lychee adds a wet, almost metallic brightness that makes the whole thing feel chilled rather than baked. That frozen-shop moment holds for a while before the heart takes over. Corn rose and peony arrive together, powdery and slightly soapy in a way that softens the fruit without burying it. The pear note is the unsung hero here, a quiet green sweetness that keeps the floral from getting lipstick-y. As the composition settles, the base starts anchoring things. Amber and sandalwood lay down a warm, slightly woody floor. The musk is clean, not skanky, more freshly-washed-skin than bedroom. Eventually the cherry fades to a memory, but the cream-and-sandalwood base keeps going in a low hum.
Cultural impact
Very Cherry occupies a specific register in fragrance, the one where the brief is delight rather than depth. The cherry ice cream note is its hook, and the rest of the composition builds outward from that single image. The blend manages to hold its own character without leaning on novelty alone, and the way the powdery florals settle against the creamy base gives it a finish that feels considered. There's something disarming about a scent that leads with something this literal and then earns its complexity underneath.
