The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Truth No.2 arrived in 2023 as part of Daniel's Truth's expanding catalog of oil perfumes, a line that has quietly grown into one of the more distinctive small-format houses of its kind. Built from carefully sourced materials and suspended in kosher-certified vegetable alcohol, each release carries the texture of something made by hand rather than manufactured at scale. Truth No.2 reflects that sensibility with restraint rather than spectacle. Its name doesn't carry the mythology of a single reference point; instead, it carries the confidence of a second offering in a line meant to explore rather than repeat. The composition opens with eucalyptus and ylang-ylang, two notes that immediately set the tone: cool and aromatic on one side, lush and tropical on the other.
What makes this composition worth a second look is the unusual pairing at the top. Eucalyptus is camphoraceous, almost medicinal in its clarity, while ylang-ylang leans ripe, dense, and narcotic. Put them together and you get an opening that reads cool and warm at once, like stepping out of an air-conditioned room into humid air. The heart pulls this same tension inward: myrrh brings resinous, incense-like depth, while rose supplies the familiar floral anchor. Neither note dominates. They share the space. The base of driftwood and oud grounds everything in a dry, slightly smoky register that prevents the floral sweetness from ever tipping into confection.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are all eucalyptus. Cold, sharp, almost mentholated, the way the air feels sharp after rain on concrete. Then ylang-ylang arrives underneath it, pulling the temperature up slightly. By the forty-minute mark the eucalyptus has softened into something more atmospheric, and the heart begins to play. Rose doesn't burst in. It edges forward, cushioned by myrrh's warm resin. The ylang-ylang deepens alongside it, giving the middle phase a dense, almost velvety texture. Around the three-hour mark the base asserts itself. Oud appears quiet, not loud or barnyard, more like the smell of wood that's been near smoke. Driftwood adds a salt-here trace, a seaside mineral note that keeps the drydown from going too dark. Six hours in, the oud has thinned but hasn't left. What's left is a close-to-skin blend of driftwood and the ghost of myrrh, the kind of scent you catch when you move your wrist. On fabric it lingers longer, closer to twelve hours, fading into something almost incense-like.
Cultural impact
Within Daniel's Truth's catalog, Truth No.2 reads as the quieter sibling, a wood-and-floral composition cut with eucalyptus rather than built on citrus or gourmand sweetness. That positioning alone gives the fragrance a distinct place in the line, offering something more meditative than the brighter, juicier releases that might sit alongside it on the shelf. The scent opens with that signature eucalyptus note, cool and camphoraceous, carrying the slightly medicinal brightness that the plant is known for.
