The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Love Story collection began with a very Paris idea: love padlocks on Pont des Arts. Each iteration explores a different shade of that romance. The 2017 Eau Sensuelle, the third chapter, moves from the original's rose-forward elegance into something warmer, more intimate. The fragrance reveals new facets of the collection's signature orange blossom, softening it with heliotrope's vanilla character and a velvety, almost milky sandalwood. The result is a fragrance that feels less like a grand gesture and more like what comes after, the quiet morning after. The interplay between the bright citrus top notes and the creamy, powdery heart creates a sense of intimacy that lingers softly, inviting you into a more personal moment rather than commanding attention.
What makes this composition distinctive is the contrast between the bright, almost tart opening and the soft, powdery warmth that follows. Yuzu brings a Japanese citrus sharpness that keeps the orange blossom from being overly sweet. Heliotrope takes center stage with its almond-vanilla quality, adding a gourmand softness that feels almost edible. The sandalwood in the base isn't the sharp, pencil-shaving variety. It's been treated to bring out a creamy, almost milky character that wraps around the other notes as they fade.
The evolution
The opening is yuzu and lemon, a bright citrus sparkle that reads clean and modern. The orange blossom arrives quickly but doesn't dominate, it's sweeter here, more romantic, softened by the other notes. Pear adds a brief fruity undertone before the heliotrope takes over. That's when the powdery warmth kicks in, vanilla-almond, almost edible. The sandalwood shows up in the base with its creamy, almost milky character, settling into musk and cedar for a finish that stays close to the skin. The sillage is moderate, you're not filling the room, you're leaving a trace. Longevity is respectable, and the sandalwood in the drydown can linger for hours on the skin, softly announcing itself without ever becoming overwhelming.
Cultural impact
The Love Story line occupies a specific niche: romantic femininity without heaviness. The Eau Sensuelle specifically targets wearers who want the intimacy of a skin scent, someone who'd rather leave a trace than announce herself. It sits alongside the original Love Story EDP and EDT as part of a collection that explores different chapters of the same love story. The line's consistent use of orange blossom as a signature, evolved across three interpretations, has built recognition for a house that approaches perfumery with a distinctively feminine sensibility.
