Caïpra Oud

What makes the structure unusual is the oud's placement at the top of the pyramid, not buried in the base. Here it arrives in the first thirty seconds, meeting passion fruit and grapefruit head-on. That collision produces something the categories don't quite cover: an Oriental Floral that reads tropical before it reads anything else. The sandalwood and patchouli in the heart add depth without darkening the mood, the sandalwood contributing its familiar milky cream and patchouli offering a wet, earthy undertone that anchors the brightness above.

The evolution

The first ten minutes are loud. Grapefruit and passion fruit crack open like something spilled, bright and slightly tart, and the oud underneath gives it weight before it can fly off. Raspberry sweetens the edges without making it candy. By the twenty-minute mark the fruit has settled and the white flowers start to surface, rose threading through a green tea haze that nobody sees coming from an oud fragrance. The rose lands softly, more as a halo than a soliflore, with its dewy, almost stem-like freshness weaving into the green tea's leafy, faintly bitter lift. The heart holds for a few hours, sandalwood giving it a creamy middle while patchouli works underneath like a slow bass note. You can feel the cream of the sandalwood thickening the texture of the composition, lending it a buttery warmth that smooths the edges of the earlier fruit.
