The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Chin-Suchit Kaewudon conceived Lotus Blossom as an homage to a specific sensory memory: the moment a lotus flower unfurls on a still pond at first light in Thailand. This is the perfumer behind Butterfly Thai Perfume, the Bangkok house founded in 2017 that translates everyday Thai moments into scent experiences. For Kaewudon, the lotus is not merely a floral note; it is a symbol of purity and awakening. The opening water lily and mint were chosen to evoke the stillness of pre-dawn water, before the flower has opened, capturing that held-breath quality of early morning stillness.
The note philosophy behind Lotus Blossom is rooted in a desire to capture Thai temple pond serenity through contrast. Water lily and mint open with clarity and coolness, representing the still surface of the water. Amber and lotus form the warm, spiritual heart, evoking the sacred bloom itself. The drydown, built around white musk, oud, vanilla, benzoin, and saffron, grounds the fragrance in warmth and resinous depth, mimicking the way early morning light eventually warms the air around the pond. Each layer was chosen to move the wearer through a complete arc, from crisp morning clarity to deep, lingering comfort.
The evolution
The fragrance opens with water lily and mint, a pairing that creates immediate coolness and clarity, as if stepping beside a pond in the hour before sunrise. The mint is restrained, lending a clean, green brightness rather than a sharp bite. As the mint fades, the amber-lotus heart emerges smoothly, with amber providing warm, honeyed depth and lotus delivering its characteristic delicate floral softness. The lotus note here is the sacred heart of the composition, a reminder of the bloom that graces temple ponds across Thailand. The drydown then settles into a richer, more Intimate register. White musk wraps the skin in a clean, close warmth. Oud contributes quiet woody depth, meditative rather than bold. Vanilla and benzoin create a sweet, resinous warmth that lingers, while saffron adds a faint, spiced complexity that rounds the edges and gives the final hours a distinctive, almost meditative character.
Cultural impact
Since its 2020 debut, Lotus Blossom has sparked conversation among enthusiasts for its bold contrast of minty freshness and deep oud warmth. Some praise its ability to evoke a Thai sunrise on a humid day, while others find the sweet‑creamy drydown reminiscent of mass‑market deodorants. The polarising reception highlights the brand’s knack for creating scents that sit at the crossroads of traditional Thai aromatics and modern synthetic flair, making it a frequent topic in online fragrance forums.
