The Story
Why it exists.
Cuir de Venise, literally “Venetian leather,” was born in 2021 from the minds of Michel Almairac, Clément Marx and the Robertet team. Inspired by the rich, weathered leather that lines the historic canals of Venice, the perfumers set out to bottle that tactile opulence. The composition leans on gourmand cacao to echo the sweet patina of aged hide, while ginger and cinnamon give the opening a crisp, bustling market energy that mirrors Venice’s vibrant streets.

The Beginning
Cuir de Venise, literally “Venetian leather,” was born in 2021 from the minds of Michel Almairac, Clément Marx and the Robertet team. Inspired by the rich, weathered leather that lines the historic canals of Venice, the perfumers set out to bottle that tactile opulence. The composition leans on gourmand cacao to echo the sweet patina of aged hide, while ginger and cinnamon give the opening a crisp, bustling market energy that mirrors Venice’s vibrant streets.
Using cacao both at the top and the base creates a seamless thread that ties the scent together, a nod to the continuous grain of leather. Guaiac wood adds a smoky, slightly resinous depth, recalling the charred beams of Venetian workshops, while papyrus introduces a dry, papery whisper reminiscent of ancient scrolls. Patchouli grounds the heart with earthy richness, ensuring the leather never feels flat, but rather alive and breathing.
The Evolution
The first spray greets the nose with a thick cloud of dark chocolate, spiced by ginger’s clean heat and cinnamon’s sweet spice, like stepping into a candle‑lit trattoria. Within minutes the heart unfurls: guaiac wood smolders, papyrus flutters like parchment in a breeze, and patchouli spreads an earthy, slightly damp forest floor. As the hours pass, the base emerges, cacao deepens into a bittersweet finish, vanilla softens the edge, and cedar leaves a dry, woody whisper that clings to skin long after the night ends, delivering an 8‑10 hour lingering warmth.
Cultural Impact
Since its 2021 debut, Cuir de Venise has become a go‑to for those seeking a warm, gourmand leather scent that feels both refined and approachable. Wearers often mention its ability to turn an ordinary dinner into a memorable evening, and its strong sillage makes it a favorite for intimate gatherings where a lingering, sweet‑smoky aura is prized.
The House
France · Est. 1858
Boucheron is the oldest jewelry house on Place Vendôme, where Frédéric Boucheron chose the sunniest corner in 1893 to showcase his revolutionary designs. A family dynasty founded in 1858, the maison has dressed royalty from Tsar Nicholas II to the Maharajah of Patiala, translating its sculptural approach to precious materials into fragrances that capture the same light, movement, and Parisian elegance. Now part of Kering, Boucheron's perfumes (from the iconic Jaïpur to the contemporary Quatre collection) reflect 165 years of craftsmanship and the singular vision that made them pioneers.
