Ambitious

Orris root brings its characteristic powdery quality to the heart of the fragrance. In most oriental florals, orris reads as a supporting player, there to soften and add delicate nuance. Here, it holds a meaningful presence alongside the Bulgarian rose. The heart is powdery, yes, but with a substantive character that gives it weight. Benzoin contributes warmth to the base without tipping into overt sweetness. Tonka bean is present in the drydown, offering the most obviously sweet element, while sandalwood and patchouli provide a grounding woody foundation.

The evolution

The opening arrives with clarity. Guatemalan cardamom and Russian coriander make their presence known together, the cardamom lending warmth while the coriander adds complexity to the first minutes. Chinese geranium hovers underneath, providing a rosy-green lift that keeps the spiced notes from feeling heavy. As the fragrance develops, the rose takes center stage. Bulgarian and Moroccan rose are joined by jasmine for richness and orris for powdery depth. The heart is floral, but floral with weight, the iris adding dimension to the rose rather than simply softening it. The base follows, with Siam benzoin and crystal amber building warmth that holds the florals upright as they begin to recede. Sandalwood and patchouli establish a woody foundation, while tonka bean adds sweetness that prevents the drydown from feeling austere.
