The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Bath House launched in 2020 in New York with a direct naming philosophy and a commitment to transparent, clean formulas. After Slate and Heaven Is, the team wanted a scent that would sit at the intersection of brightness and softness. Frangipani & Grapefruit became that bridge. The goal was not to complicate things but to let two distinct characters, citrus and tropical florals, share the same composition and feel cohesive. The brand's gender-neutral positioning meant the formula needed to work across skin chemistries without skewing too far in either direction, a challenge the team approached by keeping the palette tight and the proportions honest.
Bath House builds each fragrance around a single narrative note, and for Frangipani & Grapefruit, that note is brightness itself. The pairing of grapefruit and frangipani is deliberate. Grapefruit provides the energy, the initial spark. Frangipani provides the balance, keeping the composition from becoming too sharp or one-dimensional. Peach and orange in the heart reinforce this duality, extending the warmth without tipping into heaviness. Cedarwood and musk exist to ground everything, ensuring the fragrance does not simply evaporate but remains present and personal through the drydown.
The evolution
The scent journey starts with grapefruit and bergamot, delivering an immediate tartness that feels like morning light through a window. Frangipani arrives within seconds, its creamy tropical character softening the citrus edge. This opening is deliberately bright but not aggressive. As the first hour passes, peach and orange replace the citrus as the primary impression. The sweetness here is gentle, more sun-ripened fruit than artificial candy. By hour three, cedarwood and musk define the drydown. Cedarwood adds the warmth and structure that prevents the fragrance from feeling lightweight throughout its lifespan. Musk keeps the finish close to the skin, making the final hours personal rather than room-filling.
Cultural impact
Since its 2021 launch, Frangipani & Grapefruit has been noted in niche perfume blogs for delivering a straightforward citrus‑floral experience that aligns with Bath House’s ethos of single‑note storytelling. Wearers often cite it as a go‑to summer scent that feels effortless yet distinctive, positioning it alongside the brand’s other minimalist releases while standing out for its tropical fruit heart.
