The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Marc Daniel Heimgartner designed Exquisite as Attar Al Has's answer to a specific question: what happens when Turkish confectionary meets contemporary niche perfumery? Lokum, the rose-water-dusted Turkish delight found in every bazaar, became the conceptual anchor. The perfumer didn't want a literal interpretation. He wanted the idea of lokum, its sweetness, its chew, the way sugar transforms something simple into something memorable. The result is a fragrance that wears its heritage lightly, channeling Istanbul's sensory culture without becoming a costume piece. Heimgartner approached the brief with a sense of inquiry rather than reverence, treating the cultural reference as a starting point rather than a set of restrictions.
The note structure follows a deliberate logic that rewards wearing, not just smelling. Lokum, a material not common in Western perfumery, anchors the opening in a specific cultural reference while remaining accessible. Candied fruits and raspberry amplify the sweetness; pink grapefruit prevents it from becoming cloying. The contrast between citrus brightness and confectionery warmth is where the fragrance lives. In the heart, dulce de leche introduces a creamy density that shifts the composition from fruit-bowl to dessert-course. Pink rose and cherry blossom keep it grounded in floral territory, preventing the gourmand angle from overwhelming.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and immediate: pink grapefruit announces first, followed quickly by raspberry and the powdery sweetness of lokum. The cassis adds depth, a dark fruit undertone that keeps the citrus from becoming one-dimensional. This phase lasts roughly thirty minutes before the florals begin to emerge. Pink rose enters quietly, almost shyly, settling alongside the candied fruits rather than replacing them. Cherry blossom adds a translucent quality, petals more than flowers. By the second hour, the dulce de leche has fully arrived, thickening the composition into something creamy and warm. The vanilla and pistachio in the base announce themselves gradually, the way a dessert scent builds in a kitchen, not aggressive, just present. The woody notes provide structure without weight.
Cultural impact
Exquisite occupies a space that bridges different fragrance sensibilities. The lokum reference gives it cultural specificity, grounding it in Turkish confectionery traditions without relying on superficial novelty. Those who encounter the fragrance often find it memorable for the way it handles sweetness, balancing gourmand warmth with floral refinement. It has attracted wearers who appreciate mainstream florals but seek something with more depth, as well as those who typically turn to indie releases but want something more approachable. The composition rewards attention, revealing new facets as it develops on skin.
