The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Aromas de Salazar was founded in San Diego by self-taught perfumer Michael Salazar, who built the brand around handcrafted scents using rare absolutes and unconventional pairings. Yuzu Grove emerged in 2022 from Salazar's desire to capture the paradox of a sun-drenched grove that suddenly turns into a quiet, tobacco-lined lounge. Drawing on his San Diego roots and a love for high-grade absolutes, Salazar paired the sharp zest of yuzu and green apple with the unexpected richness of blond tobacco and frankincense to create a fragrance that is both luminous and deeply grounded.
Salazar treats each material as a deliberate choice. The yuzu and green apple are not decorative; they set a tone of sharp, aromatic freshness that makes the later tobacco and incense phases feel like earned discoveries rather than predictable transitions. The inclusion of immortelle and bay leaf in the drydown signals a commitment to less common materials, while the frankincense and labdanum provide a warm resinous spine that keeps the composition cohesive rather than fragmented. The result is a fragrance that reads as both effortless and complex.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with a clean, luminous burst of bergamot, yuzu, and green apple that feels bright and effortless. Within minutes, blond tobacco appears with a soft, slightly dry sweetness, and the floral heart of neroli and ylang-ylang emerges through a veil of hedione, adding transparency and elegance. As the hours pass, amber and labdanum warm the composition, while vetiver, bay leaf, immortelle, and frankincense settle into a quiet, smoky drydown that lingers with surprising longevity.
Cultural impact
Since its 2022 debut, Yuzu Grove has sparked conversation among niche enthusiasts for its unexpected tobacco‑citrus marriage. Wearers often cite it as a go‑to unisex fragrance that bridges daytime freshness with evening warmth, positioning it as a versatile staple in the indie perfume community.
