The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Odyssee I arrived in 2023 from the Anfar 1950 house, created by perfumer Ahmedullah Anfar. The name carries weight: an odyssey implies distance, a journey across terrain that shifts underfoot. That ambition shows in the structure, this isn't a single-mood fragrance. It opens fruity, shifts into powdery florals, and settles into warmth. The composition moves through distinct phases, each with its own character, rather than settling into a single signature impression. The house crafts fragrances with attention to how each layer develops and interacts, and Odyssee I reflects that approach with its layered construction. At this price point, it offers a multi-faceted experience that moves beyond simple scent profiles.
What makes Odyssee I interesting is the density of the top notes. Mandarin orange, sour cherry, strawberry, blackberry, and raspberry arrive together in a single impression: mixed berries, barely sweetened. The violet and jasmine heart then does something unexpected: it doesn't lift the sweetness higher. It softens it, turns it powdery, introduces a tactile quality that feels like pressing your nose into a silk scarf. The base, vanilla, cashmeran, amber, musk, patchouli, and oakmoss, is where the warmth lives.
The evolution
The opening hits fast and bright. Mandarin orange cuts through first, followed immediately by the tart-sweet cascade of sour cherry, strawberry, blackberry, and raspberry. The effect is almost effervescent, like biting into a fruit that's been sitting in sunlight. The berries arrive together, creating a dense and cohesive berry burst rather than a sequential reveal. The heart takes over gradually. Violet arrives first, powdery and cool, then jasmine adds a hint of indolic warmth underneath. The fruity sweetness doesn't disappear, it recedes to the background, becoming a soft glow rather than a spotlight. The drydown is where cashmeran and vanilla do their work. Warm, creamy, skin-close. The patchouli keeps it grounded without adding earthiness. Musk and amber finish the composition into something that lingers at the edges of perception rather than announcing itself.
Cultural impact
Odyssee I occupies a distinctive space within the sweet-fruity powdery floral category, offering a denser berry opening and a warmer, more old-school powder drydown than many of its peers. The inclusion of oakmoss gives it a depth that many modern fruity florals sidestep entirely. Cashmeran provides a creamy-woody quality that extends the drydown without heaviness, giving the base a longevity that lets the warm, powdery character linger. The overall effect is something that carves its own space, balancing juicy brightness, powdery softness, and warm depth into a cohesive whole that rewards wearing rather than merely sampling.
