The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nomad's Poem arrived in 2018 from the perfumer Jérôme Epinette, working within And Other Stories' growing portfolio of personal fragrance oils. The composition reads like travel translated into aroma, built from notes that move through brightness, intimacy, and warmth in sequence. Coconut and pink blossoms at the opening carry the lightness of somewhere new, that first breath of air in a place you have not been before, the kind of sensory hit that arrives before language does. The sweetness is generous and immediate, the part of the opening that pulls you closer. Then the heart turns inward, patchouli and peach nectar pulling the composition toward skin rather than scenery, trading geography for proximity.
What makes this composition worth noticing is the way the materials share space. The coconut stays creamy and almost milky at the top, holding its texture rather than dissolving into something abstract. The patchouli arrives at the heart with an earthy, slightly sweet undertow, grounding the sweetness before it tips into anything overly tropical, and the two notes seem to acknowledge each other. Peach nectar sits between them, ripe fruit carrying its own warmth, tying the lighter opening to the heavier base without forcing the transition. Black amber does quiet work too.
The evolution
The opening belongs to coconut. It arrives creamy, almost suntan-oily, layered against soft pink blossoms that never quite announce themselves as a full floral, more like petals caught in warm air. The sweetness feels generous here, the part of the fragrance that gets you to lean your wrist toward someone. The coconut stays present for longer than expected, and the floral underneath keeps it from feeling like a single-note tropical. As the composition moves into its middle phase, the coconut retreats and patchouli walks forward. Not the sharp, damp-earth kind, but a warmer, slightly sweet variant, grounded against peach nectar that pulses underneath, lending a sunlit quality to the earth. The composition shifts from creamy sweetness to something with weight, the sweetness still there but pressed into a darker frame.
Cultural impact
Nomad's Poem sits within And Other Stories' perfume oil line, a format that prioritizes close-to-skin wear and gradual unfolding over the projection of traditional sprays. The coconut-patchouli pairing works as a study in contrasts, the creamy sweetness of coconut set against the earthy depth of patchouli, with black amber and musk anchoring the base. For those drawn to sweetness with a grounded edge, it reads as a thoughtful balance rather than a straightforward tropical or gourmand composition.
