SAYU

The structural choice here is restraint. Four top notes, four heart notes, two base notes. The blackcurrant and grapefruit do the bright lifting early, then carnation steps in, which is unusual. Carnation sits between clove and rose, spicy and soft at once. Pair it with jasmine and rose and you get a white floral heart that has actual warmth in it, not just sweetness. The base is barely there on paper: cedar and musk. That's the move. AHRES lets the florals carry the weight, then gives them a wooden floor to rest on rather than a heavy amber undertow.

The evolution

On skin, SAYU opens with that blackcurrant snap, sharp and almost candied in the early minutes. Grapefruit and apple thin it out slightly, keeping the lift airy rather than syrupy. Soon after, the carnation arrives, and it does something interesting: it pulls the fruit back without killing it. You get rose-jasmine in full bloom as the composition settles, but the carnation keeps threading spice through it, like a quiet reminder that this isn't a generic white floral. The cedar emerges as the hours pass, soft and dry, and the musk underneath never gets loud. Sillage stays moderate, the kind that lingers in your wake for a few steps after you leave a room. As the day wears on, what remains is mostly musk and a ghost of cedar, close to skin, the part you'll catch on your wrist when you rest your chin on your hand.
