The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
After Blow, a contemporary niche house founded in the early 2020s, built its reputation on minimal bottles and blends that bridge modern life with classic craft. Citrus Moon, released in 2023, was imagined as the scent of a night-time orchard bathed in moonlight. The perfumers wanted to capture the crisp glow that follows a sunset, when the air is still warm and the citrus trees exhale their brightest oils. Drawing on the house's modern-lifestyle ethos, the goal was a fragrance that felt both fresh and grounded, something you could wear effortlessly from day to evening.
The note philosophy behind Citrus Moon centers on contrast and balance. Mandarin, orange, and lemon represent the brightest, most volatile oils in the citrus family, chosen for their authentic tart-sweet character. Neroli bridges the opening and heart, its green floral quality serving as a natural transition. Jasmine and rose deepen the floral layer without overwhelming, ensuring the heart remains understated. Cedarwood and amber in the drydown provide the contrast that defines the fragrance: warm, woody, and resinous where the opening is bright and effervescent. This pairing rationale ensures each phase has its own identity while contributing to a cohesive whole.
The evolution
The opening of mandarin, orange, and lemon creates an immediate impression of tart brightness, like biting into fruit under a moonlit sky. As the top notes begin to fade, neroli emerges with its clean, green floral quality, soon joined by jasmine and rose. These heart notes temper the citrus sharpness, adding softness and a quiet romantic undertone. The drydown shifts the narrative entirely. Cedarwood arrives with dry, woody certainty, followed by amber, which wraps the wood in resinous warmth. The result is a scent that moves from luminous opening to grounded close, each phase distinct yet seamlessly connected by the original vision of moonlit orchards and evening air.
Cultural impact
Since its 2023 debut, Citrus Moon has become a go‑to for those seeking a fresh, unisex daytime scent. Wearers often liken its opening to a sunrise, noting its bright energy suits spring outings and office mornings. Its similarity to Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino sparks conversation among fragrance fans, positioning it as an accessible alternative in the citrus‑floral niche.
