Samphire began as a simple experiment in 2013 at Laboratory Perfumes, the British house founded in 2011. Christopher Perry was handed a freshly plucked verbena leaf from a friend’s garden and asked to bottle its spring‑time zest. The result became the third release for the label, aiming to translate that green, zesty rush into a scent that feels both coastal and herbaceous, while staying true to the brand’s clean, gender‑neutral ethos.

What makes Samphire stand out is the daring blend of juniper berry and black pepper with a citrus trio of lime, bergamot and citron. The herbaceous heart of rosemary, basil and lavender adds a garden‑fresh twist, while the base of oakmoss, white amber, tonka bean, jasmine, labdanum and iris grounds the composition in an earthy, slightly woody finish that prevents the bright top from evaporating too quickly.

At first spray, the nose meets a sharp, salty‑green burst where juniper berries snap like pine needles and black pepper adds a quick sting, all wrapped in a citrus veil of lime, bergamot and citron that feels like a sea‑sprayed garden at dawn. Within ten minutes the heart unfurls; rosemary, basil and lavender mingle with lemongrass and ginger, creating a herb‑spice cocktail that feels like a wind‑tossed herb patch. As the day wears on, the base settles into a soft, mossy amber cushion: oakmoss and white amber provide an earthy backdrop, while tonka bean and jasmine lend a warm, slightly sweet whisper, and iris and labdanum add a faint powdery depth. The drydown lingers for six to eight hours, staying intimate on the skin and leaving a lingering sense of fresh coastline.
