Abjar arrived in 2017 as part of The Spirit of Dubai’s mission to translate the city’s contrasting landscapes into scent. Perfumer Asghar Adam Ali was tasked with capturing a facet of Dubai’s layered identity, blending bustling souk spice with sleek skyscraper sleekness. The fragrance was conceived to echo the city’s bold, modern spirit while honoring its traditional Middle Eastern roots, fitting neatly into the brand’s narrative of sensory city chapters.

The composition’s daring contrast begins with aldehydic brightness and crisp apple, then dives into bitter almond and saffron, echoing the sharpness of desert sunrise against the warmth of sunrise‑lit dunes. Aromatic clary sage and cypress bring a green, resinous edge, while the heart’s leather and Indian oud evoke the polished steel of Dubai’s towers. This juxtaposition of fresh spice and deep animalic depth makes the scent uniquely layered and unmistakably Dubai.

The opening erupts with aldehydes, apple and bitter almond, a bright, slightly metallic spark that quickly folds into a spicy green veil of clary sage, cypress and nutmeg, while saffron and cardamom add a whisper of exotic heat. As the top fades, the heart asserts itself: leather and Indian oud command attention, softened by cashmeran’s creamy warmth, honey’s sweet glow, and a floral hint of rose and jasmine, all grounded by guaiac, cedar and birch leaf. The drydown settles into a dense animalic base, castoreum, civet and musk linger, reinforced by smoky oud, amber and vanilla, with patchouli, sandalwood and tonka bean adding earthy depth, leaving a lingering, opulent trail that endures well beyond ten hours on skin.
