The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Yveperfume arrived in 2013 from Ireland with a focused mission: each fragrance would capture a single season in olfactory form. Samhradh, the Irish word for summer, became the middle fragrance of that inaugural trio, placed deliberately between the raw cold of winter sketches and the settling quiet of autumn. The brand works with a single perfumer whose identity remains uncredited in public materials, a choice that places the work itself above the creator. The perfumer understood that Irish summer is not a tropical riot but a mercurial thing: bright mornings, overcast afternoons, sudden warmth, lingering chill in the evenings. Those contrasts shaped every decision in Samhradh's composition, from the brisk citrus-coriander opening to the cool, powdery heart that follows.
The note choices here are deliberate and interconnected rather than decorative. Bergamot and coriander open together because their aromatics share a clean, almost astringent quality that sets a cool tonal baseline. Iris and orchid pair because iris provides structure and dryness while orchid supplies warmth underneath, preventing the heart from feeling one-dimensional. Cedarwood and sandalwood anchor because the former is dry and slightly camphoraceous while the latter is soft and creamy, together creating a woody base with both presence and comfort. Each pairing is designed to balance the other, a composition philosophy that treats notes as tonal counterparts rather than individual features.
The evolution
The opening hits with bergamot's sharp citrus immediacy followed quickly by coriander's green, slightly medicinal lift. This combination feels purposeful: the bergamot recalls coastal sunshine while coriander grounds that brightness in herbs, a nod to the herbaceous quality of Irish countryside in summer. Within minutes, iris introduces its powdery, cool dryness, a note that behaves almost like a dry fabric brush across the skin. Orchid arrives alongside, its exotic floralcy adding depth and a hint of warmth that prevents the heart from feeling austere. The result is a transition that moves from open, aromatic brightness to restrained floral refinement. Cedarwood begins its slow entry around the two-hour mark, pulling the composition toward wood and earth while sandalwood cushions it with creamy, milk-like warmth. The drydown that follows is intimate and long-lasting, a soft woody trail that neither shouts nor disappears.
Cultural impact
Since its 2013 debut, Samhradh has gathered a modest cult among collectors who value understated elegance over flash. Its clear seasonal narrative makes it a favorite for those seeking a scent that feels personal yet rooted in place, often mentioned alongside the brand’s other 2013 releases as a benchmark of quiet craftsmanship.
