The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mimosa was conceived by perfumer Marc Zini for Reminiscence's 2024 Eau de Toilette launch, aiming to bottle the sun-lit essence of the South of France. The brand's founder Juan Famenias built a boutique in Juan-les-Pins in 1970 that turned objects into scented memories, and this fragrance continues that tradition by capturing the golden warmth of springtime blooms. Zini worked with a curated selection of materials centered on mimosa, a bloom that carpets the French Riviera in early spring, to create an immediatly floral experience that requires no elaborate pyramid structure. The result is a fragrance that speaks directly of sunshine and blossoms without pretense.
The note philosophy here centers on letting mimosa be the star from the very first moment, supported only by the clean brightness of bergamot at the opening and the clean floral quality of lily throughout the heart. By omitting traditional opening and drydown notes, the perfumer created a fragrance that exists entirely in its floral heart, making it immediately present and uncomplicated. The bergamot, lily, and mimosa combination works because bergamot provides necessary freshness, lily adds crisp floral structure, and mimosa brings the warm powdery character that defines the overall personality.
The evolution
The scent journey opens with bergamot's direct citrus brightness before settling immediately into the heart of mimosa and lily, where it remains for the duration. There is no traditional evolution through top, heart, and base stages, so the wearer experiences a continuous floral heart from the opening moments through the drydown. Bergamot provides the only note of freshness, cutting through the creamy blossom quality of mimosa and the clean crispness of lily. The mimosa note dominates the heart phase with its characteristic powdery warmth, while lily adds structure and a certain green clarity. Without a distinct drydown phase, the fragrance simply softens over time rather than transforming, eventually becoming a quiet Intimate skin scent.
Cultural impact
Mimosa has long been a symbol of celebration in the French Riviera, where the delicate yellow blossoms line coastal promenades and are traditionally given as gifts during festive occasions. This cultural backdrop inspired the perfume’s bright opening, evoking the optimism of springtime gatherings on sun‑kissed terraces. By referencing the region’s love of floral elegance, the scent connects wearers to a shared heritage of leisure and conviviality, reinforcing a sense of place that transcends mere fragrance and becomes a subtle reminder of Mediterranean lifestyle. Its release in 2024 taps into this legacy, positioning the perfume as both a modern interpretation and a tribute to the timeless charm of mimosa in Southern France.
