The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Kinam Nights comes from Muhammad Islamov, and the Cairo Nights Collection places it firmly in Vivace's oud-and-rose register. The name itself tells you where the nose wanted to go: kinam is the highest grade of oud, the resin-soaked heartwood that takes decades to form inside the agarwood tree. Nights signals the hour when the green herbs fall away and the deep wood takes over. Islamov built the composition around Hainan kinam, a crystalline variety prized for its clarity, then layered Taif rose otto on top. Only 30 bottles were produced, available exclusively through Vivace, which frames the release as an object for collectors rather than a shelf-warmer. The Cairo Nights Collection gathers compositions tuned to after-dark wear, and Kinam Nights sits at its most oud-forward end.
What separates this from the standard oud-rose template is the kinam itself. Most oud-forward fragrances rely on Cambodian or Laotian oils with their characteristic barnyard funk. Hainan kinam reads cleaner, almost crystalline, with a sweetness that borders on honeyed wood. Pairing that with Taif rose otto (one of the most expensive rose distillates in the world, harvested in Saudi Arabia's Taif region) creates a dialogue between two materials that collectors already revere separately. The mint and basil in the opening aren't there to freshen things up. They sharpen the edges so the oud arrives with force instead of drifting in.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to mint and basil, green and almost bracing, like stepping out of air conditioning into a herb garden at night. Then the mint peels back and Taif rose rolls forward, powdery and syrupy at once, cushioned by soft oud smoke. There's no barnyard, no animalic edge. This is the oud that whispers. Around the two-hour mark the composition shifts: the rose loses some of its lift, the Crimean rose absolute emerges from the base, darker and more honeyed, and the kinam wood moves to the surface. What lingers, past six hours and into the ten-hour territory, is mostly wood. Not loud wood. Quiet, resinous, almost incense-adjacent warmth that sits on skin like cashmere. The next morning, you'll catch it on your wrist, faint but unmistakable, and realize the fragrance never really left. It just got polite about it.
Cultural impact
Kinam Nights is built for a narrow audience, and Vivace knows it. Thirty bottles, one distribution channel, no mass launch. The composition reads as a collector's reference point, a chance to compare Hainan kinam against more common Cambodian oud profiles, with Taif rose as the companion. Among wearers who already navigate oud taxonomies, it's the kind of release that prompts side-by-side testing rather than casual spritzing.
