The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Powder Musk emerged from Touch Of Oud's 2019 quest to translate the house's love for restrained oud into a softer, unisex portrait. Perfumer Abdulla Almarzooq set out to capture the delicate hush of a powder-filled vanity, working with violet and lily as the emotional core while hawthorn added a necessary brightness to prevent the composition from feeling static. The challenge was to make powder feel modern without abandoning the nostalgia that makes it compelling. By grounding the florals in incense and myrrh rather than heavy woods, Almarzooq ensured the fragrance would remain approachable for everyday wear while still offering enough complexity to reward attention.
The note philosophy behind Powder Musk centers on restraint as a form of sophistication. Violet and lily provide an emotional anchor, their powdery florality creating immediate accessibility while hawthorn ensures the opening retains a natural freshness. The heart layers heliotrope with white flowers to deepen the bouquet, using incense and myrrh not as dramatic statements but as quiet infrastructure that supports the florals without competing. The drydown prioritizes skin proximity over sillage, allowing amber, musk and vanilla to create a second-skin warmth that feels Intimate rather than imposing. This is a fragrance built for proximity, designed to reward the wearer and those closest to them.
The evolution
The scent journey begins with violet and lily, their petals opening in quiet succession as hawthorn adds a fleeting crispness that keeps the moment alive. There is an immediate sense of cleanliness here, the kind that recalls morning rituals and fresh linens. Within the heart, heliotrope takes the lead, its almond-powder signature weaving between white flowers that expand the bouquet without pushing into sweetness. Incense and myrrh arrive as subtle undercurrents, their resinous warmth providing contrast to the florals above. The transition into the drydown feels inevitable, amber and musk absorbing the bright florals and warm resins alike, vanilla threading through to leave a lingering trace that is soft, Intimate and distinctly personal.
Cultural impact
Since its 2019 debut, Powder Musk has found a niche among fans who appreciate a powdery musk without the heaviness of traditional oud. Wearers often note its subtle elegance in office settings and its ability to stand out in a crowd without shouting, positioning it as a quiet statement piece in the modern niche market.
