The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Unleash The Leopard arrived in 2020 from The Dua Brand, a house built on making the architecture of high-end compositions accessible without diluting them. Perfumer Mahsam Raza composed this as part of the brand's Inspired Expression collection, a series that translates the feel of luxury fragrances into something within reach. The name does what names should do here. It moves. A leopard isn't subtle, but it doesn't need to announce itself either. The composition follows that logic: a bright, almost aggressive citrus opening that pulls you in, then a controlled, musky descent into something quieter and more considered. Part of the appeal is that duality.
The note list is short, which is exactly what makes it work. Grapefruit, ginger, ambrette, ambergris, ambroxan, vetiver, patchouli, musk. Eight materials, no filler. Ambrette does interesting work here. It's a botanical musk that brings warmth and a slightly powdery, skin-like quality without leaning sweet. Paired with ambergris and ambroxan in the base, the fragrance gets that clean, mineral muskiness that reads as both modern and animalic. The ginger is where the composition earns its edge. It isn't the sharp, fresh ginger of a cocktail garnish.
The evolution
The opening belongs to grapefruit. Bright, juicy, slightly bitter, and assertive enough that the first impression reads loud and unmissable. Then ginger arrives, and the whole composition tilts. The citrus doesn't disappear, but it loses the spotlight. Ginger brings a dry, almost peppery heat that sits just under the skin, lending the heart a spiced, slightly sharp undertone that cuts through the fruit's sweetness without flattening it. Ambrette and ambergris enter next, softening the edges and giving the scent a warm, slightly powdery musk that reads more intimate than the opening suggested. The transition is gradual but unmistakable. What started as something crisp and almost aggressive settles into a quieter, fleshed-out warmth. As the composition deepens, the grapefruit recedes further, becoming a ghost note rather than a statement.
Cultural impact
Unleash The Leopard draws comparisons to Bvlgari's Le Gemme Tygar and earns them. The grapefruit-ginger-ambroxan architecture shares DNA with a certain tradition of clean, musky compositions that favor synthetic sparkle over sweetness. The fragrance leans into a fresh-spicy profile that performs well in warm weather and office settings, where projecting too hard works against you. It carries that polished, daytime clarity without veering into the sterile territory some freshies occupy. The composition's strength lies in how it balances bright citrus against warm, woody musks, creating something that reads modern without trying too hard.
