The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Dua Brand launched Poseidon's Elixir Remixed MOD 1 in 2019, composing it under Mahsam Raza's direction as part of the house's Inspired Expression collection. The brief was direct: take the most balanced, wearable elements of Creed's legendary Aventus formula and build something with broader shoulders. Not a copy chasing vintage bottles. A remix engineered to stand on its own, layered into a chypre-fruity framework that lets the pineapple hit first, then lets the smoke do the long work. The composition sits as an extrait de parfum, carrying a density that reads loud from the first spray to the final hours on skin.
The defining choice in MOD 1 is the birch smoke placement. Smoke moves to the center of the arc, showing up early in the heart phase and carrying straight through to the drydown. That structural choice reframes the whole fragrance. The pineapple and blackcurrant aren't the stars. They're the opening act for something woodier, moodier, more grounded. As the top notes begin to settle, the birch asserts itself with a smoldering quality that feels almost geological, like something pulled from deep earth rather than sprayed from a modern bottle. The smoke doesn't shout. It builds.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to pineapple and blackcurrant, bright and almost aggressive, with bergamot sharpening the edges. Apple softens the corners just enough to keep it from feeling like a cocktail garnish. By minute twenty, the smoke arrives, and it doesn't sneak in. Birch smoke rolls through the heart alongside jasmine and rose, and the fruit starts to lose its grip. What replaces it is something warmer and more textured, vanilla pushing up from below, patchouli adding earthy weight, oakmoss grounding the composition in chypre tradition. Two hours in, the smoke has settled into something almost leathery, ambergris lending a saline smoothness that keeps the whole thing from going austere. By hour six, you're in the drydown, and it refuses to quit. Oakmoss, musk, and that lingering vanilla stay close to skin, still projecting in quiet waves when you move your arm. The next morning, the jacket still smells like smoke and dried fruit. Not loud. Just there.
Cultural impact
Poseidon's Elixir Remixed MOD 1 sits squarely in the Aventus-inspired conversation, a category that has become its own branch of fragrance culture. The chypre-fruity framework, the pineapple opening, the smoke through the heart: these are recognizable signposts for anyone familiar with the original that inspired it. What MOD 1 does within that lineage is shift the balance. It leans into the birch smoke more heavily than the archetype suggests, letting the woody, ashen quality carry the composition forward once the fruit fades. The result reads moodier, more grounded, with a darker undertone that emerges as the hours pass.
