The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Duagasm 36 in 2024, layering pear and praline against Bulgarian rose, cashmere wood, and an oud-rooted base. The composition moves through a gourmand register with enough greenery from the oakmoss to keep things from tipping fully into dessert territory. Pear and praline set up a sweet opening, but the saffron threads through with enough dryness to interrupt the sugar before it becomes overwhelming. Bulgarian rose and cashmere wood form the heart, giving the fragrance a soft, rounded bridge between the bright top and the grounded base. The vanilla sugar and white musk in the base keep the landing gentle, rounding off the oud and oakmoss so the whole thing closes warm rather than sharp.
Pear and praline together suggest dessert, but the saffron keeps that sweetness in check with a dry quality that prevents things from sliding into pure confection. Bulgarian rose does the work of pulling the heart upward, lending a slightly muted, powdery floral character rather than a bright, clean lift. Cashmere wood sits in the middle of the structure and operates quietly, bridging the gourmand opening to a mossier, more grounded base without drawing attention to itself.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are the loudest this scent gets. Pear opens bright, praline melts in just behind, and saffron threads through both with a dry, slightly bitter edge. By the end of the first hour, the Bulgarian rose and cashmere wood settle into the heart, and the sweetness starts pulling inward as the warmer notes begin to surface. Two hours in, the oud and oakmoss take over the lower register while vanilla sugar keeps the top from going austere. The base that emerges around hour three is musky, mossy, and considerably quieter than the opening. As it wears, the projection softens and the fragrance moves closer to the skin, trading the initial brightness for a deeper, warmer presence. The oakmoss becomes more apparent in the later hours, lending an earthy dampness that grounds the sweetness, while the white musk keeps everything from going heavy.
Cultural impact
Duagasm 36 leans gourmand rather than purely oud-forward, which gives it crossover appeal for wearers who want something sweet but still grounded. The combination of pear, praline, and vanilla sugar in the upper layers pairs with an oud and oakmoss base that keeps the fragrance from reading as simple dessert. Bulgarian rose runs through the heart, softening the transition between the bright, sweet top and the darker, mossier foundation. The result occupies a warm, rose-and-oud space that balances indulgence with restraint, offering sweetness without tipping into the purely confectionate.
