The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza composed Cosmopolitan Extreme in 2025 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. This composition takes its cues from a well-worn template in masculine perfumery, one built around the interplay of citrus, herbal lavender, and dry wood. Raza's version strips the form down to three structural notes and lets them carry the weight. What emerges is a focused study in restraint, a fragrance that asks three ingredients to do the work that many compositions spread across thirty or more. The result feels architectural rather than decorative, closer to a blueprint than a flourish. By limiting the formula to Sicilian lemon, lavender, and Virginia cedar, Raza forces each note to occupy a clear register, and the listener can hear them without straining.
The DNA here is uncompromisingly classic in feel. What makes Cosmopolitan Extreme worth examining is its refusal to elaborate. Just citrus brightness, herbal lavender, and dry Virginia cedar doing all the work. The opening is a burst of lemon zest, almost effervescent, the kind of sharp brightness that catches you before you've finished the first spray. Almost immediately, the lavender begins to weave in, cool and slightly medicinal, with that clean herbal lift that lavender delivers when it's not buried under sweeter companions.
The evolution
The opening belongs entirely to the Sicilian lemon. It arrives with the sharpness of biting into the fruit, not the sweetness, then quickly moves toward the zest's aromatic edge. The lavender steps forward soon after, herbal and slightly camphorous, smoothing the citrus without killing it. This is the most dynamic phase, the moment where the fragrance reads as cologne rather than perfume, bright and buoyant on the skin. As the composition settles, the Virginia cedar begins to take over. It arrives dry, with a pencil-shaving quality that replaces the lemon's brightness with something warmer and quieter. The lavender lingers underneath as a soft hum, never fully retreating, lending a cool herbal cast to the wood. The drydown becomes mostly cedarwood, close to the skin, with traces of lavender still detectable on a close whiff.
Cultural impact
Cosmopolitan Extreme sits within a recognizable tradition of citrus-lavender-cedar compositions, a category that includes Eau Sauvage Extreme among its notable reference points. For buyers familiar with those references, the appeal is immediate: a clean, structured scent that signals grooming without announcing itself. The composition draws on the visual language of the barbershop, the cool herbal-soap impression of lavender, the bright snap of citrus, and the dry warmth of cedar, and assembles them into a single coherent statement. Its three-note architecture makes it legible at a glance, and that legibility is part of the appeal.
