The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Citron Wood arrived in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's catalog, a house whose releases lean into compositions that reference established scent profiles without inheriting their price points. This particular fragrance draws on the structure of Mancera's Cedrat Boise, translating that blend of sharp fruit, leather, and moss into a more accessible extrait de parfum. It sits in the Dua Designer Line, a series dedicated to compositions built around recognizable architectures from the broader fragrance world.
What makes the composition interesting is the tension between the opening and the drydown. Sicilian lemon and blackcurrant hit first, bright and almost sharp enough to read as a cologne, with bergamot adding a citrus snap that sharpens the edges even more. Then leather, patchouli leaf, and moss arrive and the scent shifts toward something earthy and grounded, with water jasmine threading a floral softness through the middle.
The evolution
The opening belongs to Sicilian lemon and bergamot, sharp and almost bracing, with blackcurrant adding a dark fruit sweetness underneath. The citrus doesn't vanish though; it stays audible in the background for a long stretch, more of a memory than a presence, the brightness echoing beneath the heavier materials as they build. Then the moss and leather take over, and the fragrance tilts toward something denser, the leather reading almost tactile and the moss adding a damp, forest-floor quality that grounds the whole composition. The patchouli arrives not long after, earthy and slightly damp, and it stays, threading through the middle phase and giving the leather a darker, more complex character.
Cultural impact
Citron Wood draws its blueprint from Cedrat Boise by Mancera, a release that earned attention for its sharp citrus-and-leather construction and the particular tension between bright fruit and darker, mossy materials. Within The Dua Brand's lineup, it sits in the Dua Designer Line, a collection of compositions that reference established scent profiles and translate them into the brand's own extrait de parfum format. The fragrance reads as a structured composition with a clear architectural backbone, moving from a bright, almost cologne-like opening through an earthy, mossy heart and into a creamy, woody base.
