The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Spicy Gourmand Delight arrived in 2022 from The Dua Brand, shaped by a clear creative brief. The reference was Parfums de Marly's Oajan, an oriental gourmand long praised for its honeyed warmth and amber depth. The Dua Brand took that architecture and reconstructed it, working from the same blueprint to deliver the same indulgence through its own formulation. The result is a composition built around the materials that define the oriental gourmand tradition: honey, cinnamon, resins, and amber, all working together in a way that feels generous and confident.
What separates this from the endless parade of vanilla-cashmere releases is the structural discipline. The heart stacks honey, tonka bean, and osmanthus against a resinous spine of labdanum and benzoin, with artemisia threading green bitterness through the sweetness. Patchouli anchors the base but never dominates; it just keeps everything from floating off into pure sugar. The cinnamon isn't a garnish, it's a load-bearing wall.
The evolution
The opening is all spice, cinnamon and honey doing the early introductions, almost like a bakery at first light. Sweetness arrives fast but the artemisia keeps it from tipping into cloying. Within twenty minutes, the osmanthus and benzoin take over, adding an apricot-like floral warmth that feels plush, not powdery. This is the richest phase, the one that registers across a room, and it announces itself without reservation. As the hours pass, the composition gradually settles into its quieter elements, ambergris, sandalwood, and a whisper of caramel, each one reading more skin-warm than edible. The drydown softens the profile considerably, trading the room-filling presence for a closer, more intimate kind of warmth. It becomes the scent of someone sitting near you rather than someone entering the room.
Cultural impact
Spicy Gourmand Delight sits within the oriental gourmand tradition, a category defined by warmth, resin, spice, and sweetness working in close conversation. The reference to Oajan is clear in the DNA: the honey-cinnamon opening, the amber-benzoin heart, and the plush, dessert-adjacent warmth that runs through every phase of the wear. The familiarity is part of the appeal, since the oriental gourmand format has long been associated with richness, depth, and a certain opulence that wears well in cooler weather and evening settings.
