The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pavlova is a meringue dessert, named after a ballerina, built on the tension between crisp shell and soft marshmallow center. That tension is exactly what Mahsam Raza was chasing with Blueberry Pavlova, released in 2025 under The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. The name tells you everything about the architecture: a crackling fruit top gives way to a yielding, sweet heart. The target here is something gourmand-leaning but grounded, a dessert that doesn't float away. On skin, the opening arrives with a bright burst of blueberry and raspberry, the kind of tart, almost candied-fruit snap that makes the sweetness feel deliberate rather than syrupy.
What makes this composition worth a second look is the way it balances the gourmand with something earthier. Caramel alone would read as candy, but pairing it with moss and patchouli creates a tug between sweetness and soil. Blueberry and raspberry bring tart juiciness that keeps the sugar from cloying, while rosewood in the opening adds a faint woody bridge between fruit and warmth. The sweetness stays remarkably disciplined throughout the wear, never tipping into the sticky territory that lesser gourmand compositions fall into.
The evolution
First fifteen minutes, and this one is loud about its fruit. Blueberry and raspberry hit the air like a bowl of berries tossed with orange zest, juicy and slightly sharp. The rosewood underneath is subtle but doing work, preventing the opening from collapsing into pure syrup. You're getting sweetness with backbone. By the thirty-minute mark the caramel arrives, and the whole thing shifts into something slower and warmer. The fruit recedes, not gone but quieter, and the caramel takes the lead with a buttery, almost burnt-sugar richness. Moss and patchouli creep in from underneath, adding a damp, earthy base that grounds the sweetness. This is the pavlova moment, the soft center you were promised. Four to six hours in, it's mostly skin musk and vanilla. The fruit is a memory. The caramel has smoothed into something quieter. What remains is warm, slightly sweet, and unmistakably close to the body. On fabric, the vanilla tends to linger longer, sometimes into the next morning, softer but still recognizable.
Cultural impact
Part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, Blueberry Pavlova sits within a broader catalogue of gourmand-leaning compositions the brand has been building out. The collection brings together scents organized around recognizable edible and textural themes, and this one stakes its claim on the fruit-and-caramel territory. It reads as comfort food for the nose, the kind of fragrance you reach for when you want something that smells like a dessert you already know and love.
