The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Berry of Desire arrives in 2026 from Mahsam Raza, the nose behind The Dua Brand's compositions. Part of the Inspired Expression collection, it takes the idea of strawberry milk and pulls it into sharper focus, where gourmand comfort meets iris refinement and a quiet oud backbone. The composition plays a fruity-gourmand hand that doesn't apologize for its sweetness. There's strawberry at the top, creamy and lactonic, laced with the green flicker of cardamom, and the whole thing lands with the confidence of a release that knows exactly what it's doing. Berry of Desire wears its sugar openly while the base waits underneath, soft and blond, ready to take over once the fruit settles.
What makes Berry of Desire interesting is the tension between its top and base. Strawberry and milk in the opening suggest something undeniably youthful, almost nostalgic, but the presence of white oud and sandalwood underneath tells a different story. Cardamom bridges the two halves, adding warmth without tipping into spicy territory. The jasmine absolute and iris in the heart ground the berry accord, pulling it away from candy territory and into something more floral-powdered. It's a balancing act between comfort food and composure.
The evolution
The first spray lands like a milkshake with ambition. Strawberry arrives bright and lactonic, the cardamom flickering underneath like a match struck near sugar. That opening stays playful for a stretch, the fruit holding court while the spices peek out from beneath it, before the iris begins to rise. Powdery and cool, it settles over the fruit like a thin veil, softening the sweetness without erasing it. The jasmine absolute adds a creamy floral weight that pushes the strawberry into the background rather than letting it dominate, lending the composition a softer, more sculpted shape. As the hours pass, the scent shifts into something warmer and woodier. White oud shows up quietly, not sharp or animalic, but soft and blond, layered with sandalwood's creaminess. Vanilla wraps the whole thing in a low hum, a steady sweetness that holds everything together.
Cultural impact
Berry of Desire sits in the sweet spot (literally) of fruity-gourmand territory, taking strawberry milk, dressing it up with iris and white oud, and arriving at something that reads as playful on the surface but reveals more complexity as it dries down. The composition wears well for someone who wants gourmand warmth without crossing into pure dessert territory. There's enough restraint in the iris and oud to keep the sweetness from tipping over, and enough sweetness to keep the woods from feeling austere. That balance is what gives the fragrance its pull.
