The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Temptation is SEDUCE's 2025 release from perfumer Adam Pro, and it wears its name against the grain. The composition is built around a clove-led heart, a quartet of florals including jasmine, ylang-ylang, geranium, and clove, anchored by sandalwood, tonka, and musk. It opens with Calone, freesia's cool petal, and a single mandarin for brightness. The opening carries a watery coolness, a fleeting impression of something almost ozonic before the warmer notes begin to surface. Freesia tempers the brightness of mandarin without pushing the composition toward sweetness, and the citrus lingers just long enough to register before the clove steps forward.
What makes Temptation unusual is the choice to let clove run the whole show. Clove is a demanding note, sharp, slightly numbing, with a medicinal edge that can read as old-fashioned. The result is a floral-spicy composition that has a distinctly clean character, more reminiscent of a traditional cologne structure than a modern gourmand or oriental. The geranium contributes a green, slightly bitter quality that threads through the florals and keeps the whole heart from collapsing into sweetness, lending a brightness that counters the weight of the clove.
The evolution
On skin, Temptation opens with a quick flash of mandarin and that cool, watery Calone note, almost like walking past a citrus grove in fog. Freesia softens the edges without adding sweetness. The clove arrives in the heart and takes command, dry, almost mentholated, flanked by jasmine and ylang-ylang that try to round it out but can't quite tame it. The geranium pulls everything into a green-rose register, introducing a slightly bitter, leafy quality that cuts through the spice and keeps the florals honest. As the composition moves deeper, the top notes recede and what remains is a close, powdery warmth. The sandalwood is creamy but never heavy, offering a smooth, almost milky softness that anchors the spice above. The tonka contributes a subtle sweetness in the lower register, a quiet warmth that deepens the base without overwhelming it.
Cultural impact
Temptation by SEDUCE leans on the aquatic character of Calone, a molecule that contributes a distinctive watery, ozonic quality to the opening. Pairing that cool, marine note with the airy soapiness of freesia and the bright zest of mandarin orange creates a top accord that feels both clean and lifted, an introduction built on freshness and transparency. The combination of Calone and freesia in particular produces an effect that reads as almost soapy, with a translucent quality that allows the brighter citrus of mandarin to shine through without being overwhelmed.
