Why it exists.
The beginning
Cuore d'Oud dropped in 2020 as part of Rito's Elegant Edition. The name translates simply: heart of oud. The idea was a meeting between two roses that have finally worked out their problems. It is built around oud as the central character, but the composition around it shows careful attention to balance and structure. There's saffron threading through the top, giving the opening a warm, slightly bitter edge before the roses take hold. Taif rose and Damask rose absolute layer against each other in a way that feels intentional, each one bringing a different texture. The oud underneath reads as smooth and woody rather than sharp or animalic. Labdanum and vanilla soften everything from the middle onward, creating warmth without sweetness.
What makes the structure interesting is the rose double feature. Taif rose in the opening brings that bright, almost honeyed, slightly metallic lift. Damask rose absolute in the heart brings the heavier, jammy, deeply floral weight. Surrounded by saffron's dry heat and labdanum's resinous glow, the two roses stop competing and start complementing. Cedar and Laotian oud ground everything without taking over, and the vanilla and white musk keep the drydown soft rather than smoky.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are saffron and Taif rose talking over each other. Bright, a little sharp, almost metallic in the way good saffron can be. The rose has a candied quality here, like rose petal preserve spread on warm toast. Around the 30-minute mark, Damask rose absolute arrives from underneath. The whole thing gets richer, deeper, more lacquered. Labdanum surfaces with its warm resin hum, and the composition stops smelling like a floral and starts smelling like a mood. By hour two, cedar and oud have taken over the architecture. The rose doesn't disappear, but it steps back into a supporting role, the way a great actor carries a smaller part in their second act. The drydown is where this fragrance lives longest. Vanilla and white musk and amber form a warm, creamy, slightly powdery base that settles close to skin and lingers well into the evening.

Cuore d'Oud sits in the space where Italian design sensibility meets Arabian perfumery tradition. The fragrance leans into rose as a primary character, with the oud serving as a deep, woody foundation rather than dominating the composition.
