Why it exists.
The beginning
Rebel arrived in 2022 as a new addition to ARgENTUM's constellation, the scent composed for the figure who carries unconventional thinking. Delphine Thierry composed it as a translation of that character into resin and ember: saffron and myrrh at the threshold, oud at the foundation. Based on a tarot card game, the house represents twelve archetypes, and Rebel was framed as the one who reminds us to approach our own revolutionary ideas with humility. Thierry's brief was a composition that smelled like conviction without performance, something that read as warm and weighted rather than loud. The fragrance opens with a flicker of saffron that sits close to the skin, then unfurls into myrrh's slow, smoky sweetness before the oud anchors everything in something dense and contemplative.
What makes the composition worth a second look is how Thierry balanced the resinous top against the oud base. Here, myrrh and saffron arrive first and hold the stage, leaving the oud to do its slow work underneath. The papyrus note is the unusual move, a dry, papery mineral scent that cuts through the warmth and keeps the whole thing from sinking into syrup. Benzoin brings the sweetness, styrax brings the smoke, and pink pepper scatters a faint static through the heart. Thierry structures the composition like a slow reveal, letting each layer cede focus as the next enters.
