Why it exists.
The beginning
Habana 500 launched in 2019 as a limited edition from Renier Perfumes. The concept for this release was Havana itself, not the postcard version but the layered city of coastal air, café counters, and afternoon heat. Perfumer Daniel Josier shaped the architecture: a marine coolness on top, a coffee-and-leather interior, and a resinous wood base. Only 500 bottles were produced. That number isn't marketing whimsy; it's the run size, baked into the name, which makes the whole release feel like a numbered edition rather than a standing SKU. The concept reads as place, a Havana afternoon filtered through scent, with each note pulling toward a specific sense memory: salt air from the malecón, espresso from a corner counter, the warm grain of wood furniture left in the sun.
The composition's center of gravity is unusual for a gourmand. Coffee dominates, yes, but it's cradled by milk and leather rather than vanilla and pastry. That pairing keeps the sweetness from tipping into dessert territory. Apple mint on top introduces a green chill that reads almost like sea spray, pulling the whole structure toward something salt-edged instead of sugary. Cedar and amber in the middle add a dry warmth that anchors the blend, keeping the gourmand reading from sliding fully into edible territory.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are the coldest. Apple mint and marine notes cut through sharp, almost bracing, like stepping out of an air-conditioned café onto a sunbaked street. Then the coffee arrives, and it arrives properly, dark, slightly bitter, with milk softening the edges into something that reads as a fresh espresso shot. Leather threads in alongside, not smoky or aggressive, more like the smell of a worn car seat or a favorite jacket. An hour in, the cedar and amber take over, and the marine coolness recedes entirely. The cedar acts as a bridge note, pulling the composition from the bright opening into the heavier wood territory of the base. By hour three, you're in the base: sandalwood, ambergris, a clean musk that wears close to skin.

Habana 500 occupies a narrow lane: a coffee-forward gourmand that refuses to be purely sweet or purely smoky. Only 500 bottles were produced, which puts it firmly in limited-edition territory.
