Why it exists.
The beginning
Orangea was conceived as a challenge: why does orange always mean sweet? The perfumer wanted to capture the entire tree, zest, leaf, bark, and the bitter pith beneath the peel, in a single composition. Bergamot provides the initial brightness, but petitgrain is the real protagonist here, delivering the green bitterness of leaves and twigs that most orange fragrances quietly discard. Mint adds a cool counterpoint, like shade under the canopy. The goal was photorealism over impressionism, not a suggestion of an orange grove, but the thing itself.
The use of cedar needle oil sets this apart from most citrus fragrances. Where typical cedarwood gives warmth and depth, cedar needle oil is sharper, fresher, more camphoraceous, almost green in its own right. It keeps the composition aromatic rather than woody, preventing the base from settling into anything resembling a men's grooming product. There's also warmth from natural amber in the foundation, though you'd never call this fragrance sweet. By hour five or six, the drydown settles into warm cedar and a quiet amber foundation. On fabric, it can linger into the next day, a faint woody warmth where the scent was applied.
