Why it exists.
The beginning
Too Dreamy arrived in 2016 as part of Poesie's "Damn Fine" collection, a series built around David Lynch's Twin Peaks. The show's off-kilter sweetness and its undercurrent of something darker made for an unusually rich source material: cherry pie in a roadside diner, beneath it something almost menacing. Joelle Nealy, the perfumer behind the house, treated that contrast as the creative brief, translating each scent in the collection into a different texture of the show. Too Dreamy leaned into the confectionery side, then pulled it somewhere unexpected, wrapping that sugary cherry core in oud, sandalwood, amber, and musk. The result is a gourmand with an undertow, something candied on the surface and far stranger underneath.
What separates this from a straightforward cherry gourmand is the agarwood. Most cherry fragrances stop at the fruit. This one threads oud through the heart and lets it ride all the way down, which gives the sweetness a smoky backbone it wouldn't otherwise have. The sandalwood underneath does similar work, adding warmth without weight. The result reads like two compositions in dialogue: one bright and boozy, the other dry and resinous, refusing to resolve into a single mood.
The evolution
The first few minutes are almost aggressive: maraschino cherry, syrupy and unmistakable, the kind that fills a small room before you've moved through the doorway. Then the oud surfaces, not as a sharp medicinal note but as something softer, almost leathery, pulling the sweetness into deeper territory. The transition feels less like a topnote fading and more like a slow tilt, the candy slowly tipping backward into something warmer and denser. By the second hour the sandalwood and musk have absorbed most of the candied top, and what's left is warmer, smokier, faintly boozy. The cherry doesn't vanish. It mutates, from neon-red to something closer to dried fruit soaked in dark rum, losing its lacquered gloss and gaining a low, ambered hum. Late in the wear the oud takes over the architecture, sitting close to the skin while the amber rounds the edges.
Cultural impact
Too Dreamy occupies an unusual corner: it's a cherry gourmand fronted by an oud. The pairing does something the candied top alone wouldn't, pulling the composition closer to a hybrid than a straight dessert scent, where fruit and resin occupy the same space at the same time. As part of the Twin Peaks-inspired "Damn Fine" collection, it sits alongside sibling scents that each interpret a different mood from the show, weaving a shared reference through several bottles.
