The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Teddy came together in 2019 as part of Poesie's A Little Women Christmas Collection. Joelle Nealy, who founded the house, composed the fragrance herself. The composition translates tenderness into scent, starting with Italian rosemary and New England fir at the top, a duo that immediately reads as outdoor and seasonal, the kind of green that recalls boughs stacked on porches and the bracing snap of cold air. Carnation arrives at the center, warm and clove-spiced, giving the whole thing a floral heart that keeps the conifers from tipping into something too austere. Holiday citrus brightens the opening without turning sharp, a curl of zest that lifts everything before the marshmallow settles in.
What makes this composition interesting is the way it balances a sharp, outdoorsy green aromatic against a gourmand sweetness. Rosemary and fir are pungent, almost medicinal, and they read as cold air and pine needles underfoot, the kind of scent that stains wool scarves in the best possible way. Placing marshmallow in the same accord is a deliberate act of tension, a way of saying that winter can be both bracing and comforting in the same breath.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are bracing. Italian rosemary snaps bright and herbal, almost savory, while New England fir brings a cold, resinous green that smells like stepping outside before the sun is fully up. A thread of holiday citrus cuts through, bright enough to notice but never loud, and the spice notes hum underneath. The carnation arrives quickly, warmed by its own clove-edged personality, and it softens the conifer into something wearable rather than room-spray. The marshmallow settles in by the thirty-minute mark, and this is where the whole composition pivots. The pine doesn't disappear. It deepens, turning from green and sharp to something warmer, almost like sap rather than needles. The marshmallow wraps it without smothering it, sweet but airy, with a powdery quality that keeps it from becoming a straight gourmand. On skin, the drydown holds a quiet, low-register sweetness for hours, with the fir lingering underneath like a memory of cold. Moderate sillage, close to the body. You'll smell it. The person beside you might, too.
Cultural impact
Teddy sits within Poesie's own catalogue as part of the A Little Women collection, a set of scents that translate literary warmth into something you can put on skin. It wears close enough to be intimate, which suits the kind of person who wants December to smell like a memory rather than a mall, like pine boughs and cocoa and the hush of a house in late afternoon. The rosemary and fir keep it grounded, the carnation gives it a soft floral pulse, and the marshmallow makes it feel like a treat you are allowed to have.
