The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Isfarkand Elixir arrived in 2019 as a higher-concentration interpretation of Ormonde Jayne's original Isfarkand, a composition that had already earned a quiet following. The brief was simple: take a structure that worked and give it more weight without breaking its clarity. Lime, bergamot, and mandarin orange still lead, but at elixir concentration, the citrus anchors deeper before the woody core takes over. The brand's approach was never about piling on. It's about letting fewer notes do more. Isfarkand Elixir embodies that principle almost stubbornly. Three top notes, one heart note (Iso E Super), and a base of cedar, moss, and vetiver. That's it. No filler, no sweetness, no concession. Just a composition that trusts its own architecture.
The defining choice here is Iso E Super as the sole heart note. It carries the entire middle phase on its own, flanked by citrus above and green-woody accords below. That three-part architecture gives the composition a clarity most fragrances lack: a bright, lifted opening yields to a smooth, almost weightless center, then settles into dry, slightly resinous wood at the base. Ormonde Jayne built the original Isfarkand around this same skeleton, and the elixir version refines rather than reinvents.
The evolution
The first 15 minutes are pure citrus: lime and bergamot cut sharp, mandarin adds a softer rind beneath. There's a green snap to it, almost herbaceous, before the brightness starts to settle. By the 30-minute mark, Iso E Super takes over. The citrus doesn't vanish; it recedes behind a smooth, woody haze that smells like clean cedar planks warmed slightly by sun. There's a velvety quality here, almost suede-like, that's the Iso E Super doing what it does best. Moss and vetiver creep in around the two-hour point, grounding the composition with a damp, earthy base. The cedar stays prominent throughout, giving the whole arc a woody backbone. By hour four, you're in the drydown: soft moss, dry vetiver, a whisper of citrus still clinging to the fabric of your shirt. Moderate sillage means it stays close to skin, an intimate trail. On a shirt collar the next morning, you'll catch faint cedar and green moss, the ghost of the composition still intact.
Cultural impact
Wearers describe Isfarkand Elixir as the scent of someone who doesn't need to fill a room. The Iso E Super heart gives it a modern edge, a creamy, slightly mineral smoothness that reads as current without chasing trends. In practice, the fragrance behaves like a quiet signature: present at close range, soft across a room, and long-lasting on skin without ever turning sharp. The citrus top carries most of the immediate freshness, but as it fades the woody base does the real work, leaving a warm, skin-like trail that settles in rather than radiates outward.
