The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Officine del Profumo traces its roots to 1221 Florence, where Dominican apothecaries crafted remedies and preparations with aromatic botanicals. This centuries-old tradition of blending historic formulas with botanical knowledge defines the house still. Magnolia Imperiale arrived in 2013 as Andrea Marcoccia conceived it, honoring the apothecary legacy while appealing to contemporary sensibilities. The name points directly to the magnolia flower, a symbol of refined elegance that fits the house's archival approach.
The note selection intentionally bridges the house's apothecary heritage with modern fragrance design. Bergamot introduces the opening with clarity, while the heart uses black orchid and jasmine to create depth without heaviness. Neroli bridges the fresh and floral elements. Musk appears in both heart and drydown, ensuring continuity from middle to finish. The closing amber note grounds the composition, providing warmth that recalls traditional apothecary preparations.
The evolution
The fragrance opens with bergamot and floral notes, the bergamot providing immediate brightness and the florals softening the citrus edge. As minerality settles, the heart unfolds with black orchid, jasmine, and neroli at its center, creating a rich floral blend. Mandarin orange adds a subtle, sparkling accent to the floral heart while musk brings warmth and presence. The drydown shifts gracefully to amber and musk, the amber lending resinous depth as the musk continues its Intimate embrace.
Cultural impact
Since its 2013 launch, Magnolia Imperiale has been praised for marrying bright citrus with deep floral richness, earning a place among collectors who value the house’s archival approach. Wearers often note its refined unisex appeal, making it a quiet staple for both day and evening wardrobes.
