The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Capricho Glam arrived in 2013 as part of O Boticário's Capricho line, a collection built around the idea of fragrance as something expressive and individual. The Capricho name carries a sense of playful indulgence in Portuguese, and each release in the line leans into a different mood or moment, giving wearers a small wardrobe of options rather than a single signature. Glam sits at the more decorative end of that range, a composition built for evenings out, gatherings, or any moment that calls for a slightly more ornate impression. The fragrance opens with a burst of candied blueberry and plum sweetness, bright and almost jammy, before the violet and ginger take over in the heart.
What makes this composition worth noticing is the layering of vanilla across two positions in the pyramid. It appears in the heart as part of the middle-phase warmth, then returns in the base for the drydown, which gives the fragrance a continuous sweetness through every phase rather than a single sweet moment that fades. The ginger in the heart is the more unusual choice, acting as a sharp counterweight to the violet's powdery softness, keeping the sweetness from going flat.
The evolution
The opening arrives soft and sweet. Blueberry and plum blend into something that reads like syrup poured over stone fruit, with neroli adding a brief flicker of brightness before the citrus disappears entirely within the first ten minutes. What replaces it is vanilla and violet, which together create a powdered sugar effect that sits close to the skin rather than projecting outward. Ginger threads through this phase as a subtle warmth, never sharp enough to register as spice but present enough to keep the sweetness from going one-dimensional. This is the longest stretch of the fragrance's life on skin. After roughly three hours, sandalwood begins to surface underneath the vanilla, lending a creamy woodiness that grounds the composition. The final drydown is musk and sandalwood, with the vanilla that started in the heart still faintly audible underneath. It lasts through an evening and into the next morning, though by then it's more skin-scent than statement.
Cultural impact
Capricho Glam sits within O Boticário's Capricho collection, a line organized around the idea of fragrance as mood and self-expression rather than a single signature. The Glam variant leans into a sweeter, more powdery territory, distinguishing itself from brighter or fruitier releases in the range through its violet and sandalwood base. Within Brazilian perfumery, it reflects the gourmand-floral direction that gained traction in the early 2010s, using familiar sweet notes but grounding them in violet and sandalwood rather than letting them read as purely candy.
