The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Noyz launched in 2024 with a mandate: fragrance without the fantasy. The name Unmute, along with others in the lineup, rejects the elevated language of perfumery in favor of something direct. For women and men, the brand operates with a focus on clarity and honesty in scent composition. Perfumer Jérôme Epinette approached Unmute as an exercise in restraint, selecting materials that communicate clearly without layering over each other in pursuit of complexity for its own sake.
The note selection reflects a specific philosophy: each ingredient earns its place by doing something distinct. Plum brings sweetness, pistachio adds nuttiness, cassia and cinnamon contribute warmth, clary sage provides balance. In the heart, cashmere wood offers smooth texture, frankincense brings depth, labdanum adds warmth. The drydown relies on bourbon vanilla for sweetness and amber for depth. The pairing rationale is straightforward: fruit and spice anchor the opening, wood and resin define the heart, vanilla and amber close the narrative. There is no unnecessary layering, no note used for marketing rather than function.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with black plum and pistachio, a pairing that establishes sweetness with nuttiness in equal measure. Indonesian cassia and warm cinnamon introduce spiced heat that builds across the first fifteen minutes, while clary sage adds a subtle aromatic counterweight. The heart introduces cashmere wood, a smooth material that tempers the earlier brightness, alongside Somali frankincense that brings resinous depth and a faint smoky quality. Labdanum rounds out the heart with warm, leathery character. The drydown unfolds into bourbon vanilla and amber, a combination that brings creamy sweetness and soft resinous warmth to the final phase, extending longevity and creating a lingering finish that feels intimate rather than theatrical.
Cultural impact
Noyz launched in 2024 and Unmute has since built a loyal following. The fragrance is praised for its longevity and noted by some for its intensity. The plum-cinnamon-frankincense combination creates a distinctive profile that stands apart from more restrained vanilla offerings.
