The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nova released Chakra in 2013, and the fragrance lands at a deliberate intersection. It pulls the masculine edge of a sharp cologne toward the lushness of a floral parfum, refusing to settle into either category. The opening reads cool and aromatic, with that crisp cologne snap hitting first before the warmer, softer floral elements start to unfold underneath. As the hours pass, the cologne structure softens and the floral heart gains ground, creating a shifting balance that never quite tips fully one way or the other. On skin, the dry-down settles into something warm and gently sweet, the florals now wrapped in a subtle musk that gives the whole composition its lasting shape.
The rose is the move that makes it work. Two of them, Bulgarian and Moroccan, stacked together for a depth most single-origin rose compositions never reach. Bulgarian brings the cool, almost candied precision. Moroccan brings the jammy, almost fermented heat. Together they hold the center while tobacco and leather push from below. There's a reason the accord reads as both floral and smoky without collapsing into either. The rose is doing the bridging. The woods and musk underneath give it somewhere to land.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes belong to the tobacco and a flash of leather that feels almost architectural, structured, deliberate. Then the roses arrive, and the whole composition shifts register. What read as a sharp, masculine-leaning cologne softens into something more opulent, the Bulgarian and Moroccan working together to build a lush, slightly jammy heart that lasts two to three hours before the smoke starts pulling back. By hour four the leather returns, quieter now, sitting closer to skin. The base is all wood and musk, a warm second-skin effect that hangs around into the next morning. Moderate sillage means it projects rather than announces. You'll smell it on a scarf the day after.
Cultural impact
Chakra occupies a versatile position. It can carry through a casual daytime setting with ease, yet has enough depth and presence to hold its own in evening wear. The opening has that cool, aromatic snap of a classic cologne, bright and a little sharp, before the floral heart begins to surface and shift the mood. As the hours pass, the two sides find their rhythm: the cologne structure softens while the floral elements gain warmth and sweetness. In colder air, the warm and slightly smoky base notes come forward, giving the fragrance a cozier, more enveloping quality.
