The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Berlin-based house Miskeo Parfums launched in 2022 under the direction of Montreal-born perfumer Marie-Pierre Blanchette. With Épices, the intention was straightforward: build a fragrance around a single idea and execute it cleanly. Rather than layering spice upon spice, each note was selected for a specific role. Coriander and cardamom provide the aromatic core. Mandarin orange and elemi add brightness without sweetness. Patchouli and cedarwood ground the composition, while myrrh and musk bring warmth and longevity. The result is a fragrance that feels intentional rather than complex.
The note selection in Épices reflects a philosophy of purposeful minimalism. Coriander was chosen for its green, slightly peppery character that provides contrast to the warmer spices. Cardamom brings a sweet-spicy quality that pairs naturally with mandarin orange. Patchouli and cedarwood were selected not for their aromatic novelty but for their ability to anchor volatile top notes and extend wear time. Myrrh adds resinous warmth without overwhelming the composition. Musk acts as a bridge, smoothing transitions and adding a skin-like quality to the drydown. Each ingredient serves a specific function, and nothing was included for novelty alone.
The evolution
The evolution of Épices is defined by restraint. There is no opening act; mandarin orange and elemi arrive together, delivering immediate warmth that feels both citrusy and resinous. Within minutes, coriander and cardamom emerge, their herbal, slightly biting quality taking center stage. Myrrh adds a resinous depth that prevents the spices from feeling sharp, while patchouli and cedarwood begin their slow integration. The heart phase lasts several hours, with the mandarin orange gradually receding and the woody notes becoming more prominent. Musk holds everything together, ensuring the transition feels seamless rather than abrupt. By the final hours, the fragrance settles into a dry, slightly sweet woodiness that remains close to the skin.
Cultural impact
Since its 2022 debut, Épices has built a quiet reputation among niche fragrance collectors who value restraint over performance. Wearers describe it as the scent of someone who walks into a room and doesn't need to announce themselves, a quality that's harder to find in woody-spicy fragrances than the market suggests. Blanchette's hands-on approach (compounding, bottling, and packing every order herself) has become part of the fragrance's story, giving it an intimacy that extends beyond the scent itself.
