Summer 2011 brought Mexx Man Summer Edition, a warm-weather release from the Mexx label. Michel Girard composed this flanker, building a citrus-and-fruit opening that gives way to a spiced heart and a mossy base. The opening hits with grapefruit and tropical fruit sweetness, the Amalfi lemon cutting through with tart brightness, the whole thing reading like a cold glass of something fizzy poured over fresh-cut citrus. Then the red apple arrives, crisp and slightly green at the stem, carrying cinnamon warmth through the middle without the composition ever tipping into dessert territory. Star anise flickers low underneath, adding a licorice edge that hums beneath the fruit rather than announcing it.
