Last Season arrived from a journey to Sweden, to a place described as far from the world, a northern latitude where silence has texture. In those days of peace, beauty, and friendship, Giuseppe Imprezzabile found himself rediscovering something he had nearly forgotten. The fragrance carries no manifesto and no destination. It exists in the space between arrival and departure, the season that doesn't announce itself. The scent itself is a meditation on presence, on the particular quality of attention that comes only when you stop moving long enough to notice what is around you. It asks you to slow down, to breathe in air that carries the memory of cold wood and damp earth, to inhabit a moment rather than pass through it.
What makes Last Season distinctive is not a single material but the way several of them refuse to resolve. Costus drives the composition forward, its animalic, slightly bitter warmth at odds with the crisp sharpness of birch smoke. Castoreum weaves through the structure, adding a musky depth beneath the other notes. Together they create a tension between green freshness and animalic depth that does not settle into easy harmony. The Swedish forests are present not as a tourist postcard but as a mood, the particular quiet of northern latitudes where nature does not perform for visitors.
The evolution
The opening hits like stepping into cold air, birch smoke and galbanum, sharp and immediate. Artemisia cuts through with a green bitterness that lasts longer than expected, its presence lingering before the leather arrives. That's when the composition shifts: castoreum adds a musky depth beneath the costus warmth, and suddenly this is something different from what it was. The heart unfolds slowly, oakmoss and vetiver anchoring everything to a mossy, earthy base that feels rooted in wet soil rather than dry wood. Tobacco and immortelle arrive as the fragrance develops, sweet and smoky without becoming soft. The drydown extends the composition, with cedar and sandalwood lingering over a persistent castoreum note that stays close to skin but announces itself in the right conditions. On fabric, the birch and leather remain present, the smoke leaving its trace for some time.
